Nolan's agent secured the audition for her and she found the character brief "enticing", as she learned of Heather's "vivacious nature" and her storyline. She was informed that she had been cast two weeks after the audition. Nolan told Tamara Cullen of TV Week that it was "a wonderful surprise." Heather comes to Summer Bay to get help from Roo Stewart with a law school application, but causes suspicion when she takes a photo of Marilyn Chambers . Lewis reports Christian to the police for assault, but is angered when Christian only receives a fine.
He started out on the Australian TV series Home and Away where he starred in 363 episodes and has since starred in season 3 of HBO's True Detective, the Purge franchise, James Cameron's Sanctum,... Heather meets with her new tutor Roo Stewart at the Pier Diner to work on a TAFE application form. She tells Roo that she wants to study law in order to help those who normally would not have the means, like mothers who have been separated from their children. Heather then explains that while she worked as a housekeeper, she had an affair with a married man and became pregnant. Heather reacts when she hears Roo call out to Marilyn Chambers, and she later takes a photo of Marilyn on her phone.

Jasmine later tells Tori that Lewis pleaded guilty to the murder of three patients and the attempted murder of Christian. While passing through Graydon Prison reception, Lewis notices his former colleague Jasmine Delaney. He tells her that he is an agency nurse and is currently working in the prison infirmary. He then invites Jasmine to get a coffee with him sometime, which she accepts.
In 2018, a new series of eight-second titles were introduced along with the return of the show's theme song. The new titles, which currently change during each week, mostly feature two men or two women running down to the ocean for a surf. A 30-second version of the titles, not aired on Australian television, was released on the Home and Away website. Home and Away follows the lives and loves of the residents in Summer Bay, a fictional seaside town in New South Wales.

When Mia arrives, Chloe confronts her about the lies she told and refuses to leave with her, as she wants to stay and get to know Ari again. Nikau introduces Chloe to his girlfriend Bella Nixon and helps her secure a job at Salt, after she goes up against Ryder in a cocktail making competition. Later, Heather kidnaps Marilyn, Alf, Irene, and Roo and holds them hostage in her former boarding school. There, she forces Marilyn to admit to the others that Heather is her daughter who she gave up for adoption, after an affair with a man she worked for. Heather reveals her plan to get revenge on Marilyn for doing so, as her parents turned out to be less than caring towards her. However, Constables Cash Newman and Rose Delaney arrive, having discovered that Heather killed her stepmother.
From 2000 to 2003, the theme song to Home and Away was sung by The Robertson Brothers and it was the first version to use only male vocals. A 30-second updated version by The Robertson Brothers was used from 2004 to 2006. In January 2007, a new version was introduced and performed by Israel Cannan, who played the character Wazza in the show. After Cannan's version received many complaints from fans, the Seven Network decided to re-record the theme song in April 2007 with vocals provided by Luke Dolahenty. A shorter, 15-second version sung by Dolahenty and Tarryn Stokes debuted in 2009. Home and Away is set in Summer Bay, a fictional seaside town in New South Wales.
Recurring and guest characters
Chloe comes to Summer Bay with her friend and Ari's nephew Nikau Parata (Kawakawa Fox-Reo), whom she meets in New Zealand. She hopes to reconcile the father/daughter relationship she had with Ari. Barrett felt that when it comes to Ari and Nikau, Chloe is "quite determined to reconnect." Chloe is also a potential love interest for Ryder Jackson . The character's biological father Matthew Montgomery was introduced in November 2021. After 18 months in the role, Barrett made her last appearance as Chloe during an episode broadcast on 21 July 2022.
Stephanie McKenna of The West Australian thought the New Zealand trip would end badly, writing "it's the happiest Gem has been in a long time and she has a beaming grin. But of course, it wouldn't be Home and Away if nothing bad happened." In Ireland, Home and Away debuted on Monday, 3 October as part of RTÉ's re-launch of RTÉ2 as Network 2 - their secondary channel. Episodes screened at 6.30pm and in September 1997, a daytime episode was added at 1.25pm on RTÉ One with the 6.30pm episode becoming the replay of the daytime broadcast.

Seeing the degree of conflict the "influx of parentless children on a tight-knit community" was having, Bateman came away with the idea for a new serial. While Seven Network executives were unconvinced by the idea, audience research was positive. The soap opera was initially called Refuge, but the name was changed to the "friendlier" title of Home and Away once production began. One of the paramedics who collects Colby Thorne from Graydon Prison and brings him to the hospital. A few months later, she and her colleague bring Justin Morgan to the hospital and she informs Tori Morgan that he is semi-conscious with no signs of external trauma.
Marilyn later receives word that Heather is unfit to stand trial for her crimes and is committed to a psychiatric hospital. Nathan Silva introduces PK to Mackenzie Booth and he asks to buy into that night's poker game, but she says it is full and he would need to be vetted. Nathan tries again to convince Mac to let PK into the game and PK tells her to name her price to get him a seat at the table, which she accepts. Felicity Newman is suspicious of PK, but Mac insists that he stays as he tripled the buy-in. PK later tells Mac that he wants to run an exclusive poker night at Salt with one table and a $5,000 buy-in. When they discuss the arrangements, PK tells Mac that he does not want Felicity at the event because her brother is a police officer.
Christian confronts Lewis after the patient dies and demands that he is sacked. Tori later asks Lewis if working with Christian will be a problem, but he assures her that it will not be. On his first day at nursing unit manager, Lewis undermines Christian while treating Marilyn Chambers . Jasmine encourages him to tell Christian about Anna, and he eventually does so in front of the department.
Owen asks Ryder and Roo to tell him all about Evan and Ryder lends him Evan's guitar, so he will feel a connection to his brother. Upon returning to the caravan park, Owen has tea with Roo and they talk about Evan, but she becomes overwhelmed and leaves. She later asks Owen out for a drink and opens up about how she was with Evan when he died and the shock she felt when Owen showed up in the Bay. Owen says that they should start from the beginning and Roo can get to know the real him.
He then tries to frame Dean for PK's murder, but Dean has him kidnapped and then forces him to go to the police, where he confesses to killing PK to protect Mac. Johnson previously appeared in Home and Away in 2010 as Paulie Rosetta.
She soon has her eye on John Palmer and approaches him while he is dining alone at Salt; the pair initially hit it off and Susie takes keen interest in John's personal life. The two eventually become more involved with one another and when Susie claims she has no where to live, John agrees to let her move in. Susie shows signs of suspicious behaviour when she begins asking questions and searching through John's bank statements, aside from feeling uninterested every time John touches her. Susie then persuades John to run for Surf Club president, much to Alf Stewart's shock as it is unusual for anyone to run against him for president. Marilyn Chambers confronts John about his sudden change of character since he has started seeing Susie, causing her to clash with Susie on a number of occasions. Fed up with Marilyn's interference, Susie presents Marilyn with divorce papers from John.
Van Os later teased a connection between Xander and an established character. Nursing unit managerWifeAnna JobsonLewis Hayes, played by Luke Arnold, made his first appearance on 30 November 2020. Arnold's casting was confirmed in early November, while his character's details were revealed later that month.
They go out drinking and Marco tells Ben about an investment opportunity. Maggie is against the idea, but Marco threatens to tell Ben about the one-night stand, unless she convinces Ben to invest. Maggie tells Marco that she and Ben recently had financial difficulties and Ben had depression. Marco later helps Ziggy at Ben's surf board shop and learns Maggie is talking with Ben, who wants to discuss the proposal further.
